Bear Hunts

The spring black bear hunts at RockRidge offer the hunter an excellent opportunity to harvest bears weighing up to 500 pounds. Our hunters also have the chance to tag colour phase bears; brown, cinnamon and blonde.

The outfitting area covers nearly 300,000 acres. All of the hunts are bait oriented and with three or more baits per hunter in this large area, we pick out the best and most active for you to hunt. The large area, combined with well placed bait sights, gives us an excellent track record. Sighting are 100% and harvest rates are 95%. New bait sights are in development each year. Scouting these new areas brings one to realize there is no end to harvesting trophy black bears.

The land alone will give the hunter all the confidence needed to harvest the bear of a lifetime. All styles of hunting are welcome whether it be rifle, muzzleloader or archery. Both Kent and Lori are avid archery hunters and understand the requirements needed. Bow hunters make up almost 90% of the clientele, so you will be well looked after!

Here are your hunt basics:

  • Spring season runs May to early June
  • 6 day hunt (Monday to Saturday)
  • 1 bear limit
  • Law requires rifle hunters to wear red or orange tops
  • Dull red, quiet material recommended and an orange or red hat
  • Archery and muzzleloader hunters may wear camouflage
  • Tree stand safety belt mandatory
  • Important items to remember are: high rubber boots, mosquito gear, good flashlight, and a compass

Our passion for hunting black bears is extended to all those wanting an experience of a lifetime. We extend our services to cater to your specific needs, whether it be to sit with the hunter and help judge sizes or to videotape your hunt from the stand. Parents are finding that a bear hunt at RockRidge is an excellent way to get their teenagers involved in the outdoors, and many families have left rewarded by this adventure.

Black bear hunts at RockRidge are a very “at home” and personal vacation full of fun, whether accompanying the guide on ATVs, baiting and preparing for the evening hunt, sitting around the campfire in the evening, or enjoying a beautiful wilderness walk. These adventures provide an exciting experience for family members that don’t hunt. In mid-May, fishing season opens and since the bear hunt begins in late afternoon, you will have time to enjoy fishing in the morning in the river right out the front door or at the local Tobin Lake which is renowned for record walleye and northern pike fishing.
